Congratulations to DON Enterprise, Inc and the Lower East Neighborhood in the City of New Castle on receiving their Keystone Communities Elm Street Designation
DON Enterprises worked tirelessly through the planning and application process to submit a strategy that supports blight remediation, accessible and affordable housing, connectivity and walkability, healthy living, and economic opportunities within the Lower East Side. Their work was a collaborative effort amongst staff.
I had the pleasure of participating in a designation announcement on Thursday, June 10, 2021. The event took place at the Lower East Side Community Garden. It was a true neighborhood celebration with participation from the Bible Way Church of God In Christ providing parking and facilities, a DON employee serving as DJ, the presence of city and county elected officials, partner organizations, numerous DON staff, and neighbors joining together to recognize each other for their continued efforts. Cake and strawberries from the garden were served as a sweet treat in the warm and sunny weather.
It was an honor and a privilege to witness the respect displayed for Kenny Rice, the Elm Street Manager. Kenny and his family have invested in their community for years, and his hard work and positive attitude are recognized and appreciated by many. The DON staff emulates what it means to be a team. I am excited to walk beside them through the next five years and beyond.
